Learn Vietnamese at The Intercultural Charter School

Even though schools are just starting a new year, it's not too early to start looking into where to send your kid next year. There are a plethora of new charter schools popping up and it's hard to tell which ones are will be a good fit for your child without a proven track record. However, many of the schools are trying new and innovative techniques and teaching styles that can benefit your child greatly. One new school, The Intercultural Charter School, instructor Tuyen Tran teaches Vietnamese to the students.

The school serves children from Kindergarten through fifth grade. It is located in New Orleans East where there is an established Vietnamese-American population. 40% of the children are of Vietnamese descent and %55 are African American. The program is not only attracting diverse students but also new teachers to the area.

Intercultural Charter School Board President, Al Alcazar, hopes to instill in his young charges a sense of kinship with people of all nationalities. The school hopes to add Spanish and possibly Swahili to curriculum in the coming years.

The Intercultural Charter School is only one example of the changes taking place in the New Orleans school system. With the recent announcement of $685 construction plan, there will be a lot of new building projects. I hope that this means good things for the city's future. There might be hope for us after all.
